We started out the 4th Holiday weekend with seeing Hannah and Sterling off on an adventure to RTX, (Rooster Teeth Convention) Hannah has really been working on improving her Cosplay of Yang. (Check out the chain mail)
Oh, the day before Hannah left for RTX, she was interviewed as the “Fox 54 Kid of the week”!
The kids love Swimming over at the banks.. This picture is almost in the dark, sorry for the poor quality.
The SnoCap drive in had a car show on the 4th. Check out this crazy custom!
Had to get my picture with it..
End of one of the pool parties at the Banks.
So today I recruited the Girls and Rockwell to help Build a “Little Library” for the park out in front of the house! They really got into it! More Young Makers!
Gluing as Nailing. The nailgun does really help.
I think they were enjoying the nailgun a tad too much. That little library is built like a tank now!
THe only thing I did was cut the wood.. the kids put the whole thing together.. For real, it was all on them.
And they did a great Job too!
Painting is next!
It’s going to look great! The door and the roof goes on tomorrow, and then we will mount it in the park!
Melinda got to ride the Motorcycle for the first time this week. She is a natural.
I kid you not, she did not even stall it once. She asked to go to Arthur’s to ride in the woods.
Last weekend was the Pride Parade in Augusta. Wow, I was impressed with the size, and also the participants. Lots of Businesses where represented.
Big Parade! And there was a party in the park across the street afterward. Fun!
I think this might be remembered as the summer of motorcycles.
I broke down and purchased a used Honda XR100R.. The epitome of starter bikes. You almost can’t find a better bike to learn to ride on. Melinda and Rockwell will have a blast on it. Got it for 500$! Could not pass it up.
And Hannah has expressed interest in rebuilding the old Honda CB175 that has been hanging around (Literally and figuratively.. lol) for 25 or so years. (Got this one free on the south side of Chicago in the 80s! (NO its not stolen!))

Melinda sang “Girls Just want to have fun” in the spring Choral show at school. Wish I could hear her! She wont sing for me.. But I bet she sounds good.
Melinda swimming in a meet. She has good form. I have seen her in action, and it’s smooth and has symetry.
Rockwell is going camping! He is taking a sea plane to St John with some of his classmates. Sounds like fun!

Cori and Edo are here visiting! We like their company. We have gone to the clubhou.se a couple times, and we have eaten out, and we have made something in the forge: One more time.. Copper Roses!, They are so satisfying to make, even for beginners, that it makes it fun with out trying. We worked on these Wednesday. Here is Cori is hammering out the copper to make it flat. Edo is marking where he will cut with the plasma torch.
Here is Cori, cutting out her patterns with the plasma cutter!
Cori, Brazing the petals onto the stem.
Lets take a break and feed the chickens while everything cools off. (OK, I’m making things up now.)
Edo getting artistic on us.. you can tell by his expression.
Cori and her friend Amber made some roses too! I think this is rose number 3 for Hannah.
Definitely perfecting the petal shaping process.
ANNNND, somehow, I don’t have pictures of he finished products! I will make sure to get a picture before they leave.
Last night, while Edo and I sort of “jammed” (I played two chords on the banjo, and Ed played things around those two chords that made it actually sound like music.. very satisfying) Cori was helping Hannah create her “firewalker” shoes. They are going to be awesome! Here they are sewing the Flora microcontroller circuit board onto the shoes. I have to admit, we where all ready to hurt someone after trying to glue the LED strips onto the side of the shoes…. OMG.
Oh.. Cori fed the chickens too…
🙂

Hannah is applying to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics. (scgssm.org) Being the active Young Makers she is, she wanted to figure a way to impress them with her creativity. She knew she wanted to do something on the internet. While we where brainstorming, we where searching for interesting domain names to park her projects at. In our search, she found that “scgssm.net” was available! Hannah, with the help of some friends ( Charles, Will ), put something together. Here is Hannah’s personal message to the good #Govie folks at the Governor’s School:

Melinda is a brutal negotiator. Even I am afraid of her contracts… Because when you go back to check them, you realized she covered her butt well. Here is just a sample of what she does, and she does this on everything that could be misconstrued. Not sure where she learned this practice, but she learned it well.

That what it seems like at least! But now its behind her for a while.. the next standardized college exam is now years away for her. I’m sure she is OK with that.
Here is the ACT results. Interestingly enough, Math was her worst subject on this one. Go figure. (And when I say worst, she still did better that 67% of other college bound seniors… smile ) Fortunately, the Govie school takes the best test results from all of the various tests. So that is great news, since she did varying degrees of “well” on all the areas, just not all on the same tests! go figure.
Anyway, she got a 26 on the 1 to 36 scale. Pretty good. Good enough for UCLA to consider her.. Too bad she is a sophomore!
I just have to say here.. I love that I can brag about this stuff, but what I think I want to brag about the most is, she is really doing all of this on her own. I cheer her on, but in true teenage fashion, that only seems to demotivate her… So I try not to act like I’m too involved in her Schooling. I see her applying herself, and that is great, but even better, I see room for her to apply herself even more when the time comes. Also she seems to take life pretty seriously; She likes things done the right way. I think she will go places, and as you know, I think the future is awesome, so, The places she is going to go are going to be awesome!

Went to Hannah’s Induction into Beta club and the NHS last night. I am glad the school has this ceremony. It shows how important and serious academic success is. Only 12% of the students make it into the NHS. Here is the flyer.
Here is Hannah with her friends and Mr Baskett, the assistant Principle.
As a reward, we went to PF Chang’s resturant afterwards.

We have two new members of the family.. A new Chicken, and a new… snake!. Hannah has saved up her money for a snake for years. She has finally realized her goal. A male Ball Python. Pretty good size one too. It seems really healthy and happy. She found it on craigslist.
In it’s (un)natural habitat.
And here is the new Girl in the coop! She is sweet, but might be a leader not a follower… time will tell! I don’t know if just because you are the youngest means you are at the bottom of the pecking order. This one seems like she can hold her own.
Just a couple of Pictures from work. This one is me in my office. Not crazy that that lens makes my forehead huge.
Here is Master Control. I am in charge of this department.
