As you know, Hannah was dissapointed in not getting into the SCGSSM (Gov. school of Science and Math). But don’t ever let anything get in your way. Kathi’s sister Teri found a Science and math School in Switzerland that was very interested in Hannah attending. They said they dont often get female exchange students that like Science and Math! Well; They got one now.
A note that Teri mentioned on facebook:
I will add here (not too much pressure ) Kantonalschule Alpenquai is the best highschool in Central Switzerland. We have 4 levels of HS when kids leave 6th grade if the have an 5.2 grade pt ave out of 6 they go to Kantonalschule. Next lower is Oberstufe A, then Oberstufe B and then C level. Hannah will be with the top top students all around.
No, not too much pressure.
Lol.

Good Job Hannah. Good Job. I am proud of you. You were a conscientious student, and took your responsibilities seriously. That will get you far.

Melinda sang “Girls Just want to have fun” in the spring Choral show at school. Wish I could hear her! She wont sing for me.. But I bet she sounds good.
Melinda swimming in a meet. She has good form. I have seen her in action, and it’s smooth and has symetry.
Rockwell is going camping! He is taking a sea plane to St John with some of his classmates. Sounds like fun!

Join me in fete-ing Hannah in her 1st place finish in her High school science fair. She got a 1st place in the Physics category. Way to Go Hannah! You put a good amount of work into this one, what with going out to the lake with the local Amateur radio folks to attempt to launch that second balloon. I won’t mention the “last-minute-finish-the-night-before-the-project-was-due”…
Here it is: Hannah Science Project final 20142
🙂
Also, this is the 10th anniversary of this Blog.
How about that.

Hannah is applying to the South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics. (scgssm.org) Being the active Young Makers she is, she wanted to figure a way to impress them with her creativity. She knew she wanted to do something on the internet. While we where brainstorming, we where searching for interesting domain names to park her projects at. In our search, she found that “scgssm.net” was available! Hannah, with the help of some friends ( Charles, Will ), put something together. Here is Hannah’s personal message to the good #Govie folks at the Governor’s School:

Hannah left an art project laying around, so I had to check it out of course. Pretty good, Pretty creative, I like it. But I think I like the teachers comments the best! Talk about Enthusiastic! It’s good to have enthusiastic teachers.
And here is the art in question.

That what it seems like at least! But now its behind her for a while.. the next standardized college exam is now years away for her. I’m sure she is OK with that.
Here is the ACT results. Interestingly enough, Math was her worst subject on this one. Go figure. (And when I say worst, she still did better that 67% of other college bound seniors… smile ) Fortunately, the Govie school takes the best test results from all of the various tests. So that is great news, since she did varying degrees of “well” on all the areas, just not all on the same tests! go figure.
Anyway, she got a 26 on the 1 to 36 scale. Pretty good. Good enough for UCLA to consider her.. Too bad she is a sophomore!
I just have to say here.. I love that I can brag about this stuff, but what I think I want to brag about the most is, she is really doing all of this on her own. I cheer her on, but in true teenage fashion, that only seems to demotivate her… So I try not to act like I’m too involved in her Schooling. I see her applying herself, and that is great, but even better, I see room for her to apply herself even more when the time comes. Also she seems to take life pretty seriously; She likes things done the right way. I think she will go places, and as you know, I think the future is awesome, so, The places she is going to go are going to be awesome!

Went to Hannah’s Induction into Beta club and the NHS last night. I am glad the school has this ceremony. It shows how important and serious academic success is. Only 12% of the students make it into the NHS. Here is the flyer.
Here is Hannah with her friends and Mr Baskett, the assistant Principle.
As a reward, we went to PF Chang’s resturant afterwards.

Hannah was accepted into the NHS. (National Honor Society) This is reserved for people in good standing with a 4.0 or better grade point average. They also ask you about your extracurricular activities, and expect you to be active in those also.
Good Job Hannah! Keep it up. Your hard work and persistence will take you places.
I need to post more about Melinda and Rockwell, but I’m short on info.. I’ll give them a call tonight to get an update. I know I am the Christmas present middle man.. shipping stuff that shows up here, down there! (shipping from online stores to the USVI is ridiculous for some reason)
