Hannah Science Project

Hannah’s science project is to launch a balloon and see how high it goes.

It’s T minus 14 hours to the Balloon Launch. 122cuFT of industrial helium costs 75 bucks these days.. But I guess I should be glad it was available.. the guy said he has not been able to get any lately. She is going to be attaching her cell phone to the balloon and using an android application ( spacetracker ) to track its location and altitude, and take pictures along the way. The only risk is if it lands in a area with no cell service, it’s pretty much gone. But she will still have the data of its height, speed and location sent back to my phone while it is in the service area.

Wish her luck! We will report back here with the results!

Sugar Cane Press

Dad would have gotten into this.
After getting a call from Arthur yesterday saying “Ed I need some help mounting my sugar cane press! I have cane, and I need to press it before it goes bad!!”
Oh boy. We have to build a mount for a sugar cane press and then press it this weekend?? So, We got a couple friends together and made it happen…

So after it was mounted, I got Hannah to drive the tractor around in circles. (We could not find a mule or a horse, so Hannah on a Deere it was!)

Or even better, you can see some action video here:

Then, After, comes the cooking of the cane. To be honest, this would be a little bit funner if these guys drank beer.. 🙂  None the less, It’s fun hanging out in a old shed with (in order:) a PHD (Mike), a JD (Arthur), and a PE (Vince) shooting the breeze over some boiling sugarcane. It was quite an experience.

And here is a picture of a selection of different kinds of cane we got to press and taste. A friend of Arthur’s grows some obscure strains here in little old North Augusta. I have to say, the white cane tasted the best straight out of the press.

Did you like the recession? Then vote for this guys team again.

We went the the S.E.E.D Event again this year. I demonstrated magnets and Motors, and how they work.

Hannah helped. Here she was visiting the booth across from us. She has always like snakes… Perhaps she is Slytherin masquerading as Ravenclaw!

Some more Friday night lights. This is the next to the last game.

So, we are selling the back-back yard.. So I had to take the treehouse down. Here it is “up”.

Middle “on the way down”

Bottom floor reached. Watch your step.

This weekend was apple pressing time. We Visited Arthurs again, and helped him press some apples. It was fun as usual. In her wandering, Hannah discovered a caterpillar with some type of parasite. I’m curious about this.. Anyone know what it is?

I’m on TV a lot lately.

Here is a story about baby monitors I helped the news department with.

Link to baby monitor story, click here

And then there is the genealogy story.. Technically its not me.. its us. Because that picture in the monitor, and the one where he walks between the women? Is a picture of Nanny Granny and her sisters! Sorta cool, huh?

Video of genealogy story that a family picture is used in. Click here.

And then I went “undercover” to see if a traveling gold and silver place gave a fair value.

Part of me was hoping they gave a great value.

Alas, they did not.

Link to video of me going “under cover”.

Here is a serendipitous picture. This one was not posed.. I just happened upon it. The kids where in the tree at Arthur’s house eating plums that they had picked.

And this is a makeup picture.. somewhere around Christmas. Rockwell had won a art contest at school, and had his clay dish (the purple one) displayed at the city hall. I have another artist?

Just what I need; Another Project.

I just couldn’t pass it up. Its a anomaly, an oddity. Its a small electric car that is street legal. It is fully titled as a motor vehicle. All I need to do is fix the brakes, and buy 6, 6volt batteries.
Kathi threatened Hannah with making it her first car.
Its a 1974 Citicar. Believe it or not, Thousands of them were sold in the 70’s. But then in the late 70’s, they were found to be unsafe, and that pretty much killed the company. But it will go anywhere as long as you don’t have to get there faster thqan40mph, and as long as its not more than a 40 mile trip. I’m guessing the actual performance is not quite that good, but it should be fun no matter.
