You are growing up so fast. Rockwell is doing great. He has lots of friends and loves the outdoors. Rockwell is a rising 3rd grader now. At the 2nd Grade awards ceremony, He got an ward for going 10 points beyond the required Accelerated Reading (AR) goal, and graduated with an A-B average for the year. Excellent job!
And in other news… Melinda got into GT!! (the “Gifted and Talented” program in school) Oh, we are happy about that. Her big sister would never have let her live it down had she not! 🙂
Melinda did not reach her AR goal this year.. however, she was the only one in her class to get a All A average for the year! way to go Melinda! You know we are proud of you!
Last weekend, Melinda and a friend set up a lemonade stand out front. it was almost 100 degrees out, and they maned it like troopers for 4 hours! dont know how they lasted so long.. they only had a few takers, but the people that did stop typically gave them more than a dollar for the lemonade! so they were happy. Right before Melinda was going to break down the “store” (she was the last holdout), a news crew from NBC (not where I work) came and interviewed her.. She made it on the 11pm news that night! Unfortunately we did not see it. However, we know she made it on because other people saw it and told her.
Melinda has Polaroid camera.. So I took a picture of her with it.
(the film is getting old, that is why the color is off…)
While I’m at it.. Here is an interesting video from Melinda’s last day in class… The kids where reading their favorite poems to each other.. (some of them they wrote themselves.. And I don’t know why Melinda was so nervous..)
Rockwell at the memorial park. He will appreciate the significance one day. Today is not the day.. Memorials are just cool things to climb on..:)
It occurs to me that this is a memorial to the confederate soldiers, and not really the union soldiers. Sort of an interesting concept, no? This is not a memorial to my union ancestors. I have to go north for that.
Here is to all of the people that have sacrificed in so many ways for the “American way” May their sacrifice not go to waste.
Here is a serendipitous picture. This one was not posed.. I just happened upon it. The kids where in the tree at Arthur’s house eating plums that they had picked.
And this is a makeup picture.. somewhere around Christmas. Rockwell had won a art contest at school, and had his clay dish (the purple one) displayed at the city hall. I have another artist?
Here are a couple of poems/rhymes that Melinda wrote recently. She is a stealth academic.. She is a star student, but she works under the radar.. I need to acknowledge her more.
Melinda received ALL A’s.. keeping her record of never getting anything but.
And, Hannah proudly got ALL A’s also.. breaking her all A’s and a B or two streak that has been plaguing her for two years. She is quite happy about that.
Rockwell got A’s B’s, and two C’s (two 84’s, and 85 is a B -doh)
He is going to be in trouble if he does not bring that up and quick.
Hannah traveled on a band trip to Charleston yesterday. It appears they had a really good time. The bus broke down on the way home, but they made the best of it, and no seemed upset.
Melinda is working on a project for school, they have to do a weather report. What good would it be if a girl could not use her dads resources?? So, I took her to work and had her record a little forecast:
She had fun…
Rockwell has been taking stuff apart lately, to which his dad is very happy about.. I have been bringing old electronics home, and he has been taking them apart, piece by piece. He will have mastered that screwdriver in no time. Keep it up Rockwell.
Arrg. Whats with the inability to post? I guess I just want to put more stuff on than I do, so I procrastinate.
Well, this post is just so I don’t forget some things.
Hannah went to “Winter Jam” with a group of friends. She really had a good time, and even got a couple CD’s.
Melinda and I attended a Daddy-Daughter Dance at School, and I really need to talk about how important Beyblades are to Rockwell at this point in his life. I swear, he lives and Breathes beyblades.
We also got the scooter running at full speed.. Although its sorta hard to ride… the kids can’t take off without doing a wheelie…
you can see it on youtube..: Rockwell trying to ride it and Melinda trying to ride it
Oh! also, The Kids and I went to the “Aiken Trials” its a horse event that is sorta fancy.. and we went with VIP tickets, so we got to go into the hospitality tent and eat, drink, and have sweets to our hearts content.
At one point I said to Melinda, “Miss Manners would not approve of you putting your elbow on the table” to which Hannah quickly replied “Miss Manners would not have let us in here!” Oh man.. to funny.. and true. we were a bit out of place.
<parental boasting>She was invited to take the SAT because of some scores she received on some standardised testing she did in school in the fall.
She took it in January, and we just got the score back: 1360. (out of 2400) Not bad. Actually, its close to an average score (40th percentile) for a “college bound high school senior”. (~970 out of 1600 for those of you that took it before 2006) Pretty good for a 7th grader. Way to go Hannah! That’s my girl.
And, I dont want to forget Melinda. She has been kicking butt and taking names too. She said to me “Dad, I got 100’s in all my classes except one on the midterm report.” As she waits for me to ask her about the one that she didnt get 100 on.. “Oh, that one.. I got 102!”
She takes a test on monday to see if she can get into the GT program. I sure hope she makes it.. She wanted to match her big sister so bad..
Smart aleck.
And Rockwell? He is doing fine. He would do great if he did his classwork! However, it appears he is all of a sudden truely interested in reading. He would read before, but it was not a priority. Now, it seems like it is.. I pray it is! Reading is VERY IMPORTANT.
