OK.. So Kathi is feeding the squirrel, and the doorbell rings. So, instead of setting it down, she puts the feeding towel over it (its on her chest) and answers the door.
It’s our neighbor, Jeep. And he asks her “Can I pull a truck in your back-backyard? I need to pull some squirrel nests out of the tree that is over my porch.. they are making a mess”
Just about the time Kathi is saying “yes, sure.”, the squirrel pokes its head out from the towel.
Jeep: “..is that a… Squirrel?”
Kathi, sheepishly: “yes”
Jeep: “..I promise not to kill the squirrels.. I just want to get rid of the nests…”
Kathi has to explain to him that she does not have any super special fondness to squirrels, its just that the kids keep fining them as babies, they like watching her to raise them..Yada yada.
Its notable that Jeep is the SCEG (south Carolina Electric and Gas) Area Maintenance supervisor.. and likely has a strong aversion (to put it politely) to squirrels considering the damage they do to electrical distribution.

We finally caught the ice cream truck! He comes by on Thursdays… gotta remember that.
Kathi and the (season 2008) squirrel. He’s growing up fast.
Hannah won an essay contest at school. The contest was “Why I want to meet an author” and the prize was to go to a authors conference held nearby. 4 kids at her school got to go. (pictured). Kathi Chaperoned.
There is a rather large art festival in Augusta every year called “Arts in the Heart” of Augusta. I figured an arty picture is in order. Kath took this one. The Girl in front is a friend of Hannah’s from the neighborhood.

I’m sure we are nearing the end of the summer of bugs. Here is a neat one.. Hannah found this one in our back yard. She also pinned it. (I helped with the wings)
Rockwell also found a cicada that was just about ready to moult. amazing how well it blends with the tree.
The next day, st started moulting! unfortunately, we found out its important for it to be on a tree when it moults.. It got its legs stuck in the “shell” and did not survive. 🙁 Here is Kathi displaying it.
