Hannah went to enroll in classes today, and unexpectedly, at least to Kathi and I, she just raised the bar on this Governors school challenge..
As you probably know by now, Â she really wants to get into the Governors school of math and science. But it is a tough school to get into.. You have to have a decent SAT, Extra Curricular activities, High grades in qualifying classes. Generally be on top of your game.
Well. If she pulls this schedule off, she is sure to have greatly increased her chances of getting in, by impressing the administrators with her mettle…
It’s a bit of a gamble though.
If its too tough, she can come out with poor grades, and that would be a net negative.. !
I think she is up to it.. but she is going to have a tough fall.
Class 1 through 7 (grade 10) :
- US Government
- Physics Honors
- Art 1
- Chemistry Honors
- Spanish 1 CP
- Pre-calculus
- English 3 Honors
Good luck Hannah.. I know you have it in you.

I just came across a note Hannah wrote me a little while ago.. I have been using it as a book mark, for obvious reasons.
heh.
That girl takes her books seriously.

Backstory: This winter, on one of our bike rides to the grocery store, Hannah and I came upon a guy loading minibikes on the back of a trailer behind the K-mart. I struck up a converstation (much to Hannah’s dismay.. ha) and it turns out he travels the east coast, and has a contract to buy all retured minibikes from Kmart for a set price (I’m guess it’s, oh, ~75$ each?) Anyway, the returns run the gamut from completly worn out (why did they take it back?? the tires are WORN OUT.. you know what it takes to wear a tire off of a minibike??) to brand new, still in the box. Kmart sells them for 500$, 400$ on sale occationally. This guy said he would sell me one right there for 200$. Well, since is was one that was right out of the box with 0 miles, I figured that was a pretty good deal!
That said, it sat in the garage until recently when Melinda asked to ride it. I dont think they have been off of it since. Rockwell, Melinda and a couple friends have been riding it.
Rockwell in action.
Melinda is having way more fun on this than I expected her too.. I dont know why I didn’t think she would, She is inclined toward mechanical things…
When Melinda and her friend Hannah were not riding this thing, they were putting doors on the grounded tree house, and painting some things on the inside. Gotta like when kids weild hammers!
Melinda, myself and some friends went to a drive in movie this weekend. It was at “the big Mo” drive in, in Monetta, SC. It was fun! Melinda and her friends got to run around during the breaks and intermission. We sort of tailgated, having brought in food and drinks. It was fun! We watched “Grownups 2” Plenty of sophmoric humor, but I simply did not raise my kids to expect the language (words and/or type of useage) used. That somewhat bothered me. But I laughed all the same. I’m sure we will go there again.
Oh, as a reminder, I added a album to the Genealogy page… Check it out!

I visited Arthur H. Shealy this weekend, and we made icecream. But not just any icecream.. We made it with locally produced milk, and Aiken county peaches! It was Awesome! But the best part was a surprise… While we were taking the machine apart, we realized that we made a bunch of peach infused butter that coated the inside of the machine! (see the picture) Arthur and I made sure none of it went to waste.. Much to Hannah’s dissapointment. She was mad I didnt take her with. Sorry about that! I would have taken Melinda and Rockwell, but they where both at friends houses.. Melinda at Hannah N’s, and Rockwell at Ryans.
Hannah wanted to go look at the cache we put into a tree when Dave and Whit visited us in 2005. So off we went. We took the long way through the woods. Just as I commented that there where less mosquitos than I thought there should be with all the rain… The cache was located in the middle of a swarm of them. yikes! Anyway, we tried to get the ammo box out of the tree… but the tree had grown over the wound enought that the box wont come out of the tree anymore!!! That was a interesting suprise. Hannah left a note on the log inside of it, and we put it back in there for the next time.

Here is a pic of Melinda while she was at the 4 corners out west..
Before she went to the Grand Canyon, she went to Colorado. While there, she got to see a concert by the xxxx (oops, I forgot). Here she is with her friend Hannah, being cool.
My Mom would have a heart attack if she saw this picture. She hated when we went near edges of anything.

I swiped this pic from Cori’s FB.. Chris’s yardart.. His name is “Art”.. No major suprise there. 🙂
.
And this weekend was “Geekness Day” at the Clubhou.se… (Swiped this picture from there. ) Hannah entered the cosplay contest as Yang from RWBY, a new series from Rooster Teeth that is coming out tomorrow!
She really worked on that costume.. She even made the gauntlets!
Pictures from Melinda’s trip out west next !!

This weekend, Melinda and her friend Hannah set up a lemonade stand.. They pulled in 12 bucks. Not bad, but they have done better.
🙂
So here is a series of pictures from the Hog Roast at Chris and Pegs house this weekend! Wow, what a party. Although, we must be getting old.. there was still Beer in the Keg at the end of the night..
Chris made a haywagon just for the party. It was fun! Part of the path was int he neighbors yard, somwhere I have never gone before.
And the obligatory picture of all the siblings.. I’d say we are looking pretty good for our ages.
And Here is Rockwell playing with a bunch of his cousins (once removed -lol) They had a BLAST. This is one of those events they will all remember.
A Nannyrama for you. Pretty much the whole shebang.
Rockwell messing around with the liver that came with the pig. What a joker.
Rockwell checking out how they attach the pig to the spit.
The kids had a load of fun on this dinosour. It used to have three springs and it was hard to move, even for an adult. Take one of the springs off, and BAM, its a dangerous fun machine. Only small amounts of blood where shed.. No worries.
Rockwell riding Chris’s “irish Mail”. Its hard to figure out at first! Steering with your feet and “pedaling” with your hands! Rockwell mastered it before the weekend was over.
When I dropped off Hannah for the LUA Mincraft summer camp, we passed a guy that really goes all out in decorating the shrubs in his yard. He even got all his neighbors to do it.
And, from 2012 School Year (!) I finally have seen the actual Trophies Hannah won in the math counts competition in the virgin Islands.
And finally.. Hannah and I love eating fat. 🙂 This is a frustrating thing, because society does not, therefore does not supply it. Here is an example.. The first picture is the yogur isle at Wallmart. Look at the huge selection! (It goes down to where Hannah is standing. ) It’s HUGE. Do you think they had any flavored full fat yougurt? Not a single damn one. Not even one! WTF?
Here is the most yummy yogurt on the planet, mix this with cereal and you are in heaven. Hard to find. Its the ONLY full fat flavored yogurt we have found. It’s just not right. You are missing out if you dont lick the fat off the tinfoil when you take it off.. I have to assume its like joy people used to have drinking the cream off the top of the milk bottle.
OK< One more pic.. Here are some of our favorite teachers at North Augusta Elem. Making Cotton candy this spring at their fun fair.
Beck was asking about Hannah… Well let me tell ya’. Hannah is off to a summer camp at the South Carolina Governors School summer camp, “Goscitech“. Its a week long overnight camp where she chose the “Programming using minecraft” class. Here is an outline:
Robotics Programming Using MinecraftWouldn’t it be great if you could learn while you play? Program computers using the Lua language embedded in Minecraft, a 3D virtual world popular among teenagers and adults who like to build and design. Write software to control virtual robots to operate and survive in the game using fundamental logical constructs, data structures, and approaches to problem solving that are transferrable to any programming environment. Students will also learn basic computer architecture as they build circuits and logic gates using Minecraft’s redstone components. After the course is completed, students may continue using the school’s Minecraft server to continue their exploration, or stay connected to friends in their class. If students have not programmed before, Lua is a good place to start, and learning while you play Minecraft is a fun way to do it! Students who enroll in this course must already have, or purchase, a valid user license for Minecraft, currently priced at $26.95.Instructor: Mr. Jon Shannon Â
Grade Level: 8th, 9th & 10th
So this is neat. She will be learning the programming language “Lua” is based in the C language, so it will be a great basis to start!
I’m looking forward to seeing what she learns and what she thinks about it.
BTW, visiting the school was cool.. wow.. nice campus. I KNOW Hannah really wants to get into this school.
