We have a contest at work where we decorate our office doors for Christmas. Here is my entry. I did NOT put the box there. Someone else moved it there. I was holding it much higher originally. Sort of bummed that I printed it slightly smaller than it should have been.
Here is a pic of Melinda while she was at the 4 corners out west..
Before she went to the Grand Canyon, she went to Colorado. While there, she got to see a concert by the xxxx (oops, I forgot). Here she is with her friend Hannah, being cool.
My Mom would have a heart attack if she saw this picture. She hated when we went near edges of anything.
Beck was asking about Hannah… Well let me tell ya’. Hannah is off to a summer camp at the South Carolina Governors School summer camp, “Goscitech“. Its a week long overnight camp where she chose the “Programming using minecraft” class. Here is an outline:
Robotics Programming Using MinecraftWouldn’t it be great if you could learn while you play? Program computers using the Lua language embedded in Minecraft, a 3D virtual world popular among teenagers and adults who like to build and design. Write software to control virtual robots to operate and survive in the game using fundamental logical constructs, data structures, and approaches to problem solving that are transferrable to any programming environment. Students will also learn basic computer architecture as they build circuits and logic gates using Minecraft’s redstone components. After the course is completed, students may continue using the school’s Minecraft server to continue their exploration, or stay connected to friends in their class. If students have not programmed before, Lua is a good place to start, and learning while you play Minecraft is a fun way to do it! Students who enroll in this course must already have, or purchase, a valid user license for Minecraft, currently priced at $26.95.Instructor: Mr. Jon Shannon
Grade Level: 8th, 9th & 10th
So this is neat. She will be learning the programming language “Lua” is based in the C language, so it will be a great basis to start!
I’m looking forward to seeing what she learns and what she thinks about it.
BTW, visiting the school was cool.. wow.. nice campus. I KNOW Hannah really wants to get into this school.
Melinda is on a trip out west with her friend Hannah. They are going to endo up in camping at the bottom of the Grand canyon! Here they are at the Garden of the Gods in Colorado.

Melinda getting to ride XXX down the mountain. While the picture looks peaceful the trip was rather exciting.
Melinda learned how to cinch the tack on the horse. She did a good job for only doing it a time or two before.
This was where the horses came down to to get fed and brushed. It’s as in the middle of the bush as it looks.
I like this picture at the mountaintop.
Hannah appears to be saying “I’m on a horse!” I’m glad to see the good posture.. On Hannah.. Rockwell just seems to be saying “don’t let me fall off!”
Here is the Tan Tan tour guys.. Rockwell got to go on a 4 wheel adventure up in the mountains. I wish I could have gone! It sounded like it was FUN.
The Tan Tan tour was part of one of Rockwell’s friends Birthday parties. Here are the friends from the party playing on the beach.
In this same park was the Mural that Hannah had a hand in last year! As you might know, Hannah was part of a small group of kids (15?) that had the opportunity to work with the Coral Conservation Corps program. They did all sorts of activities that where aimed at learning about the coral reefs and their preservation. At the end of the program, they made some relief sculptures, and the CCC had them mounted on a building in the park! Perhaps Hannah will be able to come back here with her kids and point to this and say, “Hey, I made on of those!”
Here is the whole display. (remember, you can click on the pictures to make them bigger.)
Here is the one that Hannah and another participant made. I think it s great!
The family on the beach.
Melinda and I messing with the panorama function on the camera… sorta funny, Melinda followed as I moved the camera.
We are leaving in an hour or two. It was a nice visit. Went to a dinner (sort of) party last night and met some interesting people. I wish there were more people like that where I lived. Hannah and I went Scuba diving yesterday while Melinda and Rockwell went on a “TAN TAN tour” Basically a offroad tour of the island… They were guests at a birthday party and that was the “party”.. pretty amazing too.. We all visited the horses Saturday. That’s a story I need to elaborate on. We saw the art installation that Hannah had a hand in making at a park on the east side of the island. Pictures of all of this to come. But lets see if this one really nice one of Melinda loads.
Sort of live. Here is the living room/kitchen of the place Kath, Mel, and Rock are living. I would show you the rest but the Internet here is a potato. Maybe when I get home, I can upload the neat “view” picture from the balcony. Right now you would only see sky.
In the mean time, Here is a picture of the cabinets for he kitchen I have been working on. Also uploaded while on the caribbean Internet.
Ill try again tomorrow. Maybe I can upload a picture of all of us!
These guys are, uh, interesting. Not only do they grow inside the caterpillar, they have a virus that causes the caterpillar to protect them from other parasites!
Funky! Here is a interesting Youtube video from a channel that I am subscribed to that is seasonal, (Merry Christmas!) and at the same time relevant. (Yes, to parasitic wasps… go figure.)
So, I have a email debate friend that I have never met.. It’s the sister of a good friend from my past (Bill Sawicki, the artist). She is always sending me right wing rants, and I am always giving her a hard time about being right wing. The usual stuff. But not always. She often mixes feel good posts in there too.
So about a month ago she sent one of those “remember when you could….” emails. One of the things was “Remember when you could write someones name and town on a letter, and they would receive it? And I replied, “I bet you could still do that with me in my little town..”
Forward a month and what do I get in the mail? A Christmas card! Addressed to “Ed Elser, Georgia ave, North Augusta SC”!
Thanks Virginia! I wish you a very merry Christmas too. The best to you and yours. I promise to try and be more civil in 2013 in your honor.
