We all went recycling this weekend.
Melinda and Rockwell had about 40# of aluminum, and about 500# of “tin”. Tin is the recycling places euphemism for any mixed metal, such as appliances and such. (We had gotten a bunch of old electrical boxes and conduit from the airconditioner being replaced at my work.)
All told, it was worth about 45$! They each got 10$ of it, and I donated the rest to momma, because they got filthy in the process.. 🙂 You can sort of see the aluminum on the scale in the background. they pay ~33cents a pound for aluminum, and 5$ a hundred pounds for steel. Not a bad deal!
Hannah had some aluminum, #2copper wire, #1 copper wire, some #2 clean copper, some yellow brass, and some CU/AL mixed radiator material. Not that much stuff really, you see everything here except the radiator material. still, she cleared a clean 69$!! this could employ a kid during the summer at these rates! I skimmed the 9$ and told Hannah she had to decide what she is going to donate 20$ of it to… Go here if you want to see the current scrap prices nationally.
Rockwell and Melinda got to see the big grapple arm pick up a car and drop it into the crusher. Click on the picture to see a QuickTime video of Melinda talking about the dump. When she mentions the “poor little cars” being crushed, that’s what she is referring to!
Time to load some of the old pictures this summer that I never got to… This one is us at the fountain in downtown Augusta on the July 4Th weekend.
Here is another one. you can see our 50 shoebox ford in the background..
Afterwords, we went to a park, and Melinda found a cocoon.. we kept it, but it never developed into anything.
This summer, Hannah and Melinda attended the Music camp at the local baptist church. Hannah is in the middle waving at the camera.
